The Decameron is set in 1348, during the time of the Black Death, the deadliest pandemic in human history which killed as many as 200 million people. The story takes place in Florence, where a group of nobles retreats to a grand villa in the Italian countryside with their servants to escape the pestilence and enjoy a lavish holiday. However, as social norms break down, what begins as a wine-soaked celebration in the hills of Tuscany turns into a desperate struggle for survival.
